Roddy trains for SeaSkills at Oban, and he brings an experience and knowledge of the sea and boats borne from a lifetime's connection with the local area and its history. He is an Advanced Powerboat Instructor with intimate knowledge of the seas around Oban.

A native of the island of Kerrera, until recently he lived and worked on the farm he took over when his mother retired.

Roddy has worked on most of the local fish farms, operating boats of all types and sizes from small work boats to larger vessels.

He is also regularly seen skippering the Kerrera Ferry (owned and operated by his brother Duncan) or taking powerboat trips around the area when he isn't training or working on boats at Oban Marina.
