Ian founded SeaSkills in 1999 and has seen it grow from a one-man show to a very highly respected training organisation with a group of very talented instructors running courses around Scotland and abroad. He qualified as a PE teacher in 1978, and has extensive experience running outdoor training programmes with various organisations including Outward Bound® .
He has also managed in-house training departments for various large multi-national companies, and is currently employed in the aquaculture industry as the Training and Safety manager for one of Scotland's top 100 companies.
Ian has been teaching RYA courses since 1973, and is involved in the development and delivery of all training and coaching programmes. He brings a wealth of experience to all the courses that he runs.
As an appointed Powerboat Trainer and Personal Watercraft (PWC) Trainer for the RYA, he is also involved in training Powerboat and PWC Instructors and is accredited to inspect other RYA Training Centres and examine candidates for the Advanced Powerboat commercial endorsement. He is a commercial Yachtmaster® and Yachtmaster Instructor who has been involved in the delivery of motor yachts all around the UK.
Ian has many years of experience training of lifeboat crews, and will share with SeaSkills trainees some of the same techniques taught to the RNLI.
