| Oban
Our West coast base is at Oban, widely regarded as the gateway
to the Western isles, and as such it is a busy port used by both
commercial and pleasure craft. As a training area for powerboating,
it would be hard to beat
With good road and rail links to both Glasgow and Edinburgh, Oban
is within easy reach for people traveling from further afield.
Oban bay and the Sound of Kerrera are protected from the west by
the island of Kerrera and this provides a sheltered location for
training up to Level 2 – the National Powerboat Certificate.
For Intermediate and Advanced courses, there is a stunning choice
of places to visit – the Sound of Mull and Lochs Aline and
Spelve, Loch Etive and the Falls of Lora, and a choice of marinas,
jetty’s and harbours all with the grandeur of the highlands
as a backdrop
And it’s not just the fantastic scenery. Add to this the
history of the area, with Kerrera's conection to Norway in the 12th
century, Hutchinson's monument (he set up the first steam ship company
to service the Western isles, now known as Caledonian Macbrayne)
and the varied wildlife - seals, porpoises, dolphins and plenty
of sea birds of all kinds, you have the perfect setting for all
your powerboat training needs.
